Available VA Programs for veterans in need of home care services:
The following are benefits/programs available to veterans from VA Services to help veterans remain living in their homes by ensuring they have access to home care to support them with their daily needs.
Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care
This program is for Veterans who need personal care services and help with activities of daily living. This program is also for Veterans who are isolated, and for their primary caregivers who are experiencing burden.
Homemaker and Home Health Aide services can be used in combination with other Home and Community Based Services.
Homemaker Home Health Aides work for organizations such as Cherished Companions that has a contract with VA. Homemaker or Home Health Aide services can be used as a part of an alternative to nursing home care, and to get Respite Care at home for Veterans and their family caregivers. The services of a Homemaker or Home Health Aide can help Veterans remain in their own home. Please learn more about the program details at this VA link.
Aid and Attendance Benefits (if you have a VA Pension)
VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits provide monthly payments added to the amount of a monthly VA pension for qualified Veterans and survivors. If you need help with daily activities, or you’re housebound, you may qualify. Please learn more about the program details at this VA link.
Community Care Network benefits
Veterans who qualify for Community Care Network benefits may be eligible for assistance with home-health care costs. Qualified veterans will be assigned to a service care coordinator, who will determine how many hours per week the veteran requires care and will help the family connect with caregivers in their area. Community Care Network benefits are paid directly to partner organizations. Please learn more at this VA link.
